Benefits of Meditation During trouble times.

Never before modern human has gone through such a troubled time as we are going through now. Because COVID-19 outbreak there is lot of uncertainty and fear. Fear for our life and our loved ones life, fear for loss of income, fear of economy collapsing. On top of that we are stuck in four walls of homes. The list is endless.

How can we face this situation? This situation is creating tremendous stress and anxiety in our lives. How can we find courage, hope and calm in this situation?

Humanity has used meditation for enlightenment and biggest positive effect of meditation is stress reduction. We start seeing reality through unnecessary chatter of mind. We roughly have 80,000 to 85,000 thoughts every day. Our of these 80% are repeated. Day in and day out this constant repetition of same thoughts influences our mind more and more, it is like chicken and egg situation which came first? 

We start thinking this thought pattern is us. This is who we are. But that is not true, with meditation this confusion clears. We become more self-aware.

Mediation takes us from sympathetic mode to parasympathetic mode. Sympathetic mode is where are in constant state of ‘flight or fight’ mode. We think ourselves as modern human, but our reaction stress is same as we were in hunter gatherer state. Stressful situation create same response as we are facing tiger or lion, we are secreting same hormones, after situation settle the hormones are still floating in our system. If we are in constant state of stress, like we are in now, the stress hormones are constantly produced. This keeps ius in constant state of sympathetic mode. Meditation can help us come out of this state and takes us to parasympathetic mode.

But truth of matter is if we do not interfere in this cycle of thoughts, it can create diseases. Almost 99% of our diseases are due to stress.

The kay is daily practice.  Find some time and quiet place, notice if you are comfortable. Take as much support as you need. And just for few moments take this holiday from your thoughts.
